"Todd you need a new car." or "There aren't many Honda's like yours around anymore." or better..."You car looks pink." or better yet..."Why do you have a car bra on your pink car?" Yeah, my car isn't new...but its paid for...and just like Sam Cassell's basketball career, it doesn't plan on stopping anytime soon.
Funny...when people say Honda's go for 300,000 miles, you should buy one...no one really considers what that means...no one really wants to drive a car for that long...I am beginning to think the slick-used-car-man pulled a fast one over on me. I can hear him now, "Hey, one thing you'll want to think about, this 1995 Honda Civic will go for at least 300,000 miles without a problem." What he should have said, "Yeah this 1995 Honda Civic will go forever, but it will be 2025 by the time the car is even going to think about wearing out, your friends are going to make fun of your duct-taped pink car years and years before that." Perhaps I should have bought American, I could have had 12 of them-there-cars during that same time period.
Sure, my car is almost 14 years old...and yeah...I have duct-taped the glove compartment shut...I will also concede the cup holders, also duct-taped, have seen better productive/useful days...but that's pretty much the major problems...I am only at 165,000 miles currently...fast-forward 14 years from now...it will be almost 2023...and on the pace I am going, which is about 10,000 miles a year, I will be proving firsthand, that Honda's go 300,000 miles just like the stupid sales man said.
Kole calls the car Lightening, after Lightening McQueen in the movie Cars...to him it's a race car...we'll see, if I am doing my math right, old Lightening is still going to be around when he needs a car to drive to high school...Sweet...I will be able to get another Honda Civic, which will last me the rest of my life.
I'm mad you still don't have the Prelude!

you and i come from the same "car" school as my dad. take care of your car and drive it till it's dead. i have a 1998 bmw 528i...with 224,783 miles on it. very few problems and none related to the engine block or the transmission. i can't complain...got it for a steal used and it's been going strong ever since. poor tony campolo would be soo mad at me since i am a yuppy and all...but once you find a good car...drive it till it dies. :)
hope you are well.

Great blog entry.
I'm 31 and already have put too many cars to count in the grave. Two I have driven over 300,000, but thats because I believe my destiny in Christ is to be a truck driver.
My 93 Honda Civic has 213,000 on it as we speak, and the odometer just stopped working. So I guess i'll never get to 300,000 cause I won't spend the 50 bucks to get that fixed.
Oh yeah, thanks for taking my 81 accord off-roading with Rob when I was a freshman. Thats what made me want to come back to Simpson.
